PDElib DXF/DWG Programming Interface
The DXF and DWG modules of Transcendata's product data exchange library,
PDElib, lend powerful functionality based on Autodesk's DXF or DWG
formats. Over the years, Autodesk's DXF and DWG formats have
become the de facto standard for exchanging 2D drawing information
among applications. As new versions of AutoCAD and the DXF/DWG formats
become available, PDElib customers can remain confident that their
applications will stay abreast of changes that are included.
DXF and DWG are two popular formats for storing and exchanging CAD
drawings, entities, objects, and tables.
DXF (Drawing eXchange Format) is commonly used for exchanging CAD data
between software systems. There are two flavors of DXF: ASCII and
Binary.
DWG (DraWinG) is the AutoCAD native format for representing
drawings. When a file is saved in AutoCAD, it is saved as a DWG
file. DWG is a binary format which is not human-readable and
changes with most new releases of the software.
